Transient characteristics of coupled thermal radiation and natural convection in a three-dimensional cylindrical cavity containing a heated plate

In this study, a numerical study of transient combined natural convection and surface radiation in cylindrical cavity with heated plate placed inside is carried out using the open-source platform OpenFOAM. The effects Rayleigh number (105 ? Ra 107), inclination angle (0? 90?), emissivity (0 1) on velocity components, temperature field, Nusselt are investigated detail. Results show that has greater effect radiative heat transfer than convection. Radiative increases monotonously increase emissivity, its contribution could be over 50% total rate. affects flow structure, but difference less 10% for various angles. provide insights into characteristics coupled thermal three-dimensional will guide optimal design related devices.
